OS X Lion shows off some pretty amazing features, like Mission Control, Full-Screen apps, and the new Launchpad desktop layer. When Launchpad is opened, OS X displays all of your applications in an iPad/iPhone styled-layout for instant access. For those who can’t wait until the summer release, a couple simple tweaks to Dashboard will leave you with the same functionality in Snow Leopard, without spending a cent.
@erikprice That's because you have it set up that way:) System Preferences-Trackpad-More Gestures-Mission Control (you can select 3 or 4 fingers). – AWF4vk Nov 4 '11 at 16:07 I'm running 4.2.1 and this gesture doesn't work, even if I switch mission control, etc, to four fingers in prefs. – shawnwall Jan 24 '12 at 1:44. - Optional: Mac with a multi-touch trackpad. This will enable you to activate Dashboard by a simple gesture, just like Expose. For desktops, the Magic Trackpad will allow the same functionality
Creating the shortcuts in Dashboard
1. Download Plus, the dashboard widget that’ll allow you to add application shortcuts to the Dashboard. Unzip and open to install it
2. In Dashboard, click “Keep” on the Plus widget
3. Open Dashboard (F4), and click the (+) on the bottom left-hand side. Find the Plus widget and click it’s icon to open a new window
4. Find the application in Finder you want to add to the Dashboard, and click and drag it to the Plus window in Dashboard. (Hold the app down, press “F4”, and drag and drop it to Plus)
5. Adjust the size, then click “Done”
Activating Dashboard from the Trackpad
1. Download BetterTouchTool and open it. You may have to click it’s menu bar icon and select “Preferences”. In the left pane, click “Global”. If you’re on a Macbook with a multi-touch trackpad, or a desktop Mac with a Magic Trackpad, select “Trackpad / Magic Trackpad”
2. Press “Add New Gesture”. Under “Touchpad Gesture”, find a motion that is comfortable to use that will activate Dashboard. Personally, I used ‘Three Finger Swipe Down’. Next, under “Predefined Action” choose “Dashboard”
